Pipedreams Appearance!

Check out after noon on June 6, to hear my first appearance on national radio!  I will be featured playing two pieces,   The World Awaiting the Saviour, from Marcel Dupré's Symphonie-Passion, Op. 23, and Johannes Brahms' Fugue in a-flat minor.  

Biographical information

Chelsea Vaught is a native of Henderson, Nebraska where her organ studies began at Bethesda Mennonite Church with Laura Steingard. Vaught is a 2007 graduate of Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas where she majored in music, with emphases in piano and organ performance and music education. There her primary teachers were Dr. Karen Bauman Schlabaugh, piano and Dr. Roseann Penner Kaufman, organ. She also completed a Master of Music degree in church music-organ emphasis and carillon performance at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas in 2009, studying organ with Dr. Michael Bauer and carillon with Dr. Elizabeth Berghout. Vaught is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in church music-organ emphasis at the University of Kansas where she currently studies with Dr. Michael Bauer. Currently, Vaught is the Director of Music and organist at First Congregational Church in Topeka, Kansas.

In 2009, Vaught was one of twenty quarter-finalists in the AGO National Young Artist in Organ Performance competition (NYACOP). In 2010, she was a finalist in the Fort Wayne National Organ Competition, won 2nd prize in the Arthur Poister National Organ Competition, and 3rd prize in the Clarence Mader National Organ Competition. In 2011, she won 3rd prize in the John Rodland Scholarship competition. Vaught was recently selected to compete in the Mikael Tariverdiev International Organ Competition to be held in September in Kaliningrad, Russia.

Vaught also maintains an active performing career, with recent appearances at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson, Arizona and on the Malmgren Concert Series at Syracuse University in  Syracuse, New York. Upcoming recital engagements include the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.
